Adam Koch wins Seattle Yacht Club Regatta on Ozone Edge 13

Kiteboard racers round the buoy at the Seattle Yacht Club Course Races

RECAP
35 local kiteboarding enthusiasts joined in on the first of many races in Seattle this past weekend.  Between the rain squalls, the wind picked up on Saturday and provided 20-30 mph winds for about 3 hours – just enough time to get the race off and solid results posted.  “We expected about 10-15 guys to sign up, so we are very pleased to see so many people excited about racing up here (in Seattle)” commented Race Director, Andrew Koch.

Four races were run in each class; race board, surfboard & twin tip.  The Seattle Yacht Club provided all support boats and was instrumental in setting up the race course. Prizes were provided by Urban Surf, a local surf and kiteboarding shop.

The next race is planned for November – exact dates TBD.

Kiteboarding is an emerging sport, which started in the 90s.  Currently, kiteboarding athletes compete on an international level in mainly freestyle categories.  Kiteboard racing has just started to grow in popularity and strongly resembles the early days of sailboat racing.
